QR Menu — How does it work
A restaurant's QR menu works by allowing customers to use their smartphone's camera to scan a unique QR code
at their table, which directs them to a mobile-friendly digital menu. The customer can then browse the menu,
customize items, and place an order directly from their device, which is sent to the kitchen and often
integrated with the restaurant's point-of-sale (POS) system.
This system also allow customers to pay through the same digital platform, eliminating the need for a
physical menu to complete the order and payment
How it works for the customer
- Scan the code: Open your smartphone's QR code scanning app and point it at the QR code on the table.
- Access the menu: A link will appear; tap it to open the digital menu in your phone's web browser.
- Browse and order: Customer can view the menu with photos and descriptions, add items to their virtual cart, and make customizations if the system allows (e.g., "toppings").
- Pay (if possible): This platform enable customer to pay directly from their phone, often through a linked payment gateway, before or after your meal.
How it works for the restaurant
- Create a digital menu: The restaurant creates and uploads menus and images to qrmenus.net.
- Generate and place QR codes: The restaurant generates a unique QR code that links to the digital menu. This code is then printed and placed at each table or other scanning points.
- Order and payment processing: When a customer places an order via the QR code, the order is sent digitally to the kitchen and cashier for tracking and payment processing.
- Real-time updates: Restaurants can easily update the digital menu to change prices, add specials, or remove sold-out items in real-time, which is a major advantage over traditional printed menus
Waiter Tablet
A waiter tablet is a handheld device that digitizes the ordering and payment process for order takers, allowing
them to send orders directly to the kitchen or bar and process payments tableside. This system streamlines
operations by reducing the time order taker spend walking to a terminal, which leads to faster service,
increased order accuracy, and higher table turnover
How the system works
- Order taking: The order taker uses the tablet to input or send customer orders. Items are selected from an electronic menu, and customizations or special requests can be noted directly on the order.
- Order transmission: Once an order is submitted, it is instantly sent wirelessly to the kitchen or bar.
- Real-time updates: The system provides real-time updates to staff, ensuring everyone has the most current information about table status and orders.
- Payment processing: The tablet can be used to process payments directly at the table.
- Table management: The software allows staff to easily see which tables are active, transfer checks between tables, or reassign a table to another order taker.
Benefits of using a waiter tablet
- Increased efficiency: Order takers spend less time walking back and forth, freeing them up to assist more tables.
- Fewer errors: Digital ordering reduces the chance of manual mistakes from illegible handwriting.
- Faster service: Immediate transmission of orders to the kitchen speeds up the entire dining experience.
- Higher revenue: Faster table turnover means more customers can be served throughout the day, increasing potential revenue.
- Improved accuracy: Clear digital display of orders helps minimize miscommunication about food allergies or modifications
Table Kiosk / Tablet
A restaurant table kiosk/tablet works by allowing customers to use a touchscreen device to browse a digital menu,
customize orders, and pay directly at the table. The order is instantly sent to the kitchen, streamlining the
process, reducing errors, and freeing up staff to focus on other aspects of service
How the process works
- Ordering: After being seated, customers can use the tablet to navigate through the menu, view pictures and descriptions of dishes, customize items (e.g., add toppings), and place their order directly.
- Order transmission: The order is instantly transmitted to the kitchen's system, either by printing a ticket or displaying it on a digital screen, eliminating the need for a order taker to write it down.
- Payment: When the customer is finished, they can pay through the tablet. This can include paying with a credit card or digital wallet.
- Staff interaction: While the kiosk handles ordering and payment, staff are available to assist customers with questions, deliver food, and provide other services, improving overall customer interaction.
- Additional features: Some systems also offer other features, such as requesting assistance by calling a server through the tablet
Chef's Dashboard
A chef's dashboard is a software platform that provides chefs with a centralized view of key restaurant data,
helping them manage orders, track food availability, monitor orders, and update menus.
Key functions of a chef's Dashboard
- Order management: The dashboard helps track order, which allows chefs to manage orders and update menu availability.
- Sales and performance tracking: It provides a real-time view of sales, allowing chefs to see which menu items are performing well and how sales compare to goals.
- Menu engineering: By analyzing sales and cost data, chefs can make data-driven decisions about which dishes to keep, remove, or modify to increase profitability.
- Staff training: Dashboards can also provide a platform for sharing recipes, plating photos, and training events with staff, ensuring consistency across the kitchen.
- Allergen and nutritional information: The system can provide and manage accurate allergen and nutritional data for all menu items.
How it works
- Data integration: The dashboard pulls data from order information and the inventory management system for ingredient data.
- Data visualization: All this information is presented in a visual and intuitive interface, so chefs can quickly understand the current state of the kitchen.
- Actionable insights: The dashboard doesn't just display data; it provides actionable insights that help chefs make immediate decisions, like adjusting a menu or reordering an ingredient
Cashier / Main Dashboard
A restaurant's cashier/main dashboard works by integrating a Point of Sale (POS) system to handle daily
transactions, track sales, and manage operations through a user-friendly interface. It provides real-time
data on new orders, total sales, and payment statuses, allowing cashiers to take orders, process
payments (cash, card, etc.),. For management, the dashboard consolidates financial data, helps monitor staff
performance, and enables data-driven decisions by showing trends, sales breakdowns by cashier, and inventory
levels
For the cashier (Point of Sale - POS)
- Order taking: Cashiers use the dashboard to enter customer orders, which can include selecting dine-in or takeaway, specifying table numbers, and choosing from a list of available menu items.
- Payment processing: The system handles various payment methods, calculates the total, and determines any change needed.
- Real-time status updates: The dashboard shows the status of orders (e.g., in progress, ready to serve, completed) and can help with managing a waiting list.
- Shift balancing: At the end of a shift, the dashboard helps the cashier balance the cash drawer by providing a summary of cash, card, and other transactions.
For management (Dashboard overview)
- Sales and performance monitoring: Managers can view a consolidated view of sales, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and monitor staff performance and sales per cashier.
- Data analysis: The dashboard provides data analysis tools to identify sales trends, track inventory, and create reports on popular or out-of-stock items.
- Operational efficiency: By providing real-time data on order volume and status, it helps streamline operations and improve service speed.
- Financial control: Managers can use the data to monitor cash flow, reduce errors and fraud, and gain a clear financial picture of daily operations.
- Customization: Dashboards can often be customized to show specific information relevant to a user's role, such as sales reports, inventory, or performance metrics
- Menu Item Updating: Can update menu items and related details, and update prices from the Cashier / Main dashboard.
- General and other settings: Can create / update / delete menu items, users, waiters, chefs, and other related settings from the Cashier / Main dashboard.
